BLACK DIAMOND/CHILL BIG MOUNTAIN WEEKEND
31st August - 2nd September
The freeride mecca that is Temple Basin will play
host to a fantastic field of top national and
international athletes at the Black Diamond Big
Mountain Competition as part of the CHILL Series.
The CHILL Series consists of a range of big mountain
competitions whereby athletes score points for
tackling the hardest sections of the mountain,
descending through tight rock outcrops, down sheer
faces and off large cliffs with style, control and
fluidity.
This year’s event looks set to provide a great
spectacle for those watching from the day lodge and
a great pay day for those competing with $5000 is
cash prizes up for grabs. There’s also a whole heap
of gear to be won courtesy of Black Diamond.
The conditions are looking favourable with Temple
Basin receiving a huge base early in the season and
topped up with regular snowfalls throughout the
season. Temple Basin Manager and big mountain skier
Todd Windle is excited about the event this year.
"With more snow than ever on the venue, there are
numerous lines available to the riders which will
help up the anti and make for some excellent viewing
from Cassidy Tow"
Given good weather the competition will be held
Friday 31st August and Saturday the 1st finishing
up Saturday night with live music and a feast from
the on-mountain chef. Sunday the 2nd is set aside as a weather
day and will used for competition if Friday or
Saturday should be unsuitable.
If you’re keen to watch some of the best skiers and
snowboarders in the country test themselves on the
raw alpine terrain of Temple Basin book yourself a
room and head on up for what’s bound to be a great
weekend. Visit
